Sterile Processing Technician (Laboratory)

Location: Long Beach, CA

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support laboratory operations through the cleaning, inspection, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of instruments and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sterile processing practices, infection control standards, and aseptic techniques to ensure the highest level of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, inspect, wrap, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments, instrument trays, basins, and laboratory equipment.
• Inspect, disassemble, sort, clean, and process reusable instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures.
• Operate autoclaves and specialized cleaning equipment to ensure proper sterilization and decontamination.
• Assemble and prepare general and specialty instrument sets, including power equipment, laser instruments, and endoscopes.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines for cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of medical devices and laboratory equipment.
• Perform sterilization monitoring and maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory and infection control standards.
• Document daily quality assurance (QA) and sterilization activities accurately and completely.
• Support high-level disinfection processes and biological monitoring programs.
• Reprocess endoscopes and other reusable patient care equipment as required.
• Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning and sterilization supplies.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, departmental procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with laboratory support activities while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of reusable surgical instrumentation, including power equipment and microsurgical instruments.
• Experience cleaning and maintaining patient care equipment such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, pneumatic pumps, CPM machines, PCA pumps, and hypo/hyperthermia units.
• Understanding of sterilization monitoring, quality assurance programs, and record-keeping requirements.
• Familiarity with infection control standards and regulatory compliance for sterilization and disinfection processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Long Beach, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
